The Clinical Study of Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia Requiring Exchange Transfusion


Abstract
A clinical study was made on 63 cases of exchange transfusion carried. out at Ewha Womansjljniversity Hospital during a period-of 5_ years and 9 months from Jan. 1969 to Sept. 1974.
1. Mixed type of hemolytic and hepatotoxic infection cases were most frequent, and the next was hemolytic jaundice. and were more frequent in full term babies than inpremature babies.
2. Blood type; ABO incompatibility cases were most frequent and earlier exchange transfusion was performed.
3. Onseet and disappearance of jaundice in hepatocellular damage cases showed prolonged and lasted longer than hemolytic jaundice cases.
4. There was no marked difference between premature and mature babies on onset of jaundice, but lasted longer in premature babies.
